Product & reports
How the reports work
What sources does iOriginally check against?
Three layers: the open web and open-access scholarly sources (searched live, not from a stale index), your institution's own repository of past submissions, and student-to-student collusion matching within a cohort. To be candid: proprietary publisher archives like Turnitin's are larger on closed full text — our coverage is web plus open scholarly plus everything your institution has ever submitted, and we keep that distinction visible on our comparison page.
Does it detect paraphrasing and character-masking tricks?
Yes to both. Paraphrase-aware semantic matching finds rewritten passages that word-for-word comparison misses. Anti-masking analysis catches the submission-tampering tricks — homoglyph substitution, invisible characters, and similar manipulation — and flags them openly on the report instead of silently scoring around them.
What is an Original View report?
Findings annotated on the original document layout — same pages, same positions — in the browser and in the exact-layout PDF, so the two never disagree. Reviewers filter quotes, bibliography, and small matches or exclude individual sources live, and the score recomputes immediately, with a host-consolidated source list keeping every exclusion transparent.
What are verifiable certificates?
Each completed check can issue a QR-secured integrity certificate backed by a public verification page. An examiner, journal, or partner institution scans the code and confirms the certificate is genuine and unaltered — no account, no email chain, no trust-me PDF.
Can similarity thresholds match our national regulations?
Yes. Policy bands are configurable per institution — map them to your national framework or define your own thresholds, and they appear consistently on reports, certificates, and analytics.
AI-writing detection
AI signals, framed honestly
How reliable is the AI-writing detection?
We treat it as what it is: a probabilistic signal. iOriginally shows per-segment probabilities, keeps the AI number strictly separate from similarity, and prints your institution's policy note on every AI screen and PDF. We will never present it as proof — and we put that in writing.
Is the AI-writing score part of the similarity score?
No, and it never will be. Similarity measures overlap with existing sources; AI-writing analysis estimates the likelihood that segments were machine-generated. They answer different questions, so they are computed, displayed, and exported separately — one blended number would be misleading in both directions.
Can an AI-writing score alone prove misconduct?
No — and the product is built to prevent that reading. Every AI screen and PDF carries your institution's policy note stating the score is an aid for human judgment, not proof. The segment view exists so a reviewer can see what drove the signal and open a conversation with the student, following your institution's own process.
Privacy & security
Your data, your rules
Can we run iOriginally entirely on our own infrastructure?
Yes. The full platform — including the detection engines — deploys on servers your institution controls, and a mid-size university runs comfortably on a single well-specified machine. Managed cloud hosting is available if you'd rather not operate it yourself, at the same license price.
Are student documents used to train models or shared with other institutions?
Never for training, and never shared across institutions unless you explicitly opt into a shared repository. Student work stays your institution's property, and our processes are GDPR-ready for institutions worldwide.
Who controls retention, export, and deletion?
Your institution, in every case. Retention windows are set by your administrators, submissions and reports are exportable at any time, and deletion requests are honored through the platform — not through a support ticket queue. Every administrative action is recorded in the audit log, so your data-protection officer can evidence compliance.
Integrations
Fitting into your stack
Does it work with our LMS and student information system?
iOriginally is LTI 1.3-native, so it launches from Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, and any other compliant LMS with single sign-on and automatic role mapping. The REST API and signed webhooks cover SIS and ERP integration.
Can we use iOriginally without an LMS?
Absolutely. The platform is fully usable in the browser on its own: Quick Submit handles bulk uploads for exam offices, the assignments inbox organizes coursework, and students track their submissions in the student portal with live pipeline status and receipts. The REST API, signed webhooks, and CSV export cover anything custom.
How long does implementation take?
The LMS connection is typically configured in an afternoon — LTI 1.3 registration plus single sign-on. Most institutions run their first real thesis batch during the 14-day evaluation, before any contract is signed.
Pricing & procurement
Buying without surprises
What plans are available?
Three: a free 14-day evaluation with 50 document checks, a flat annual license quoted to your institution's size with unlimited checks, and prepaid credit packs of 5,000 checks that never expire. Every plan includes every report format — the differences are volume and integrations, never report quality.
How does purchasing work for a public institution?
Quote-led and procurement-friendly: we quote to your institution's size in your currency, accept purchase orders and bank transfer as first-class payment paths, and issue tax-compliant invoices for your jurisdiction. Card payment is available but never required.
Do failed checks count against our allowance?
No. Only completed reports meter — failed uploads, cancelled scans, and re-runs caused by our side are never billed, on any plan. On the annual license there are no per-report charges at all, so exam-season spikes cost nothing extra.
Can we switch from Turnitin or DrillBit mid-contract?
Yes — most institutions run iOriginally in parallel during the evaluation period and cut over at term boundaries. Your institutional repository builds from your own submissions from day one, and our team assists with migration planning.
Support
Help when you need it
What support and training is included?
Every license includes onboarding for administrators and the integrity office, role-based training materials for faculty and students, and email support. Annual licenses add priority support with guaranteed response times.
How do you handle exam-season peaks?
The platform is built for them: Quick Submit moves whole batches through in one pass, the annual license has no per-report charges so volume spikes carry no cost, and the student portal shows live pipeline status and receipts — which quietly removes most of the where-is-my-report load from your office during the busiest weeks.
